The reason we play

For Pervis

Pasadena raised him. Now the city plays for him.

Pervis Polk was a father, brother, friend, and longtime mentor to generations of Pasadena athletes. He carried family, community, and competition everywhere he went.

This tournament turns those values into a weekend that gives back: fifty squads, three local schools, and a scholarship seeded in his name at John Muir High School, his alma mater.

A full round robin on Saturday. Three single-elimination brackets on Sunday. Every team plays both days, because a community tournament should give everybody a real weekend.

A signature from the founders

Every game has a story in the score.

Pervis and Ron Wilson once crossed from the Pasadena Poly courts to a pickup game at Caltech. That day, the games ended at 17—an unusual number in pickup culture—and neither man forgot it.

Every Pervis Polk Cup game plays to 17. The championship is the lone exception, played to the traditional 21.

How it works

Everybody plays all weekend.

Day 01

Round robin

Saturday, September 12

50 5-person teams open with a full round robin under FIBA 3×3 rules. Every result sets the Sunday field.

Day 02

Bracket day

Sunday, September 13

Three single-elimination brackets give every team something to play for. The final is the only game that goes to 21.

Community impact

The city wins too

$3,000 goes directly back to local schools.

Each school receives $1,000. The John Muir gift seeds a scholarship fund in Pervis’ name, keeping his influence in motion beyond tournament weekend.
