One more rose for Pervis

Pervis Polk was a father, brother, friend, and longtime mentor to generations of Pasadena athletes. He carried family, community, and competition everywhere he went.

This tournament turns those values into a weekend that gives back: fifty squads, three local schools, and a scholarship seeded in his name at John Muir High School, his alma mater.

Every game has a story in the score

Pervis and Ron Wilson once crossed from the Pasadena Poly courts to a pickup game at Caltech. That day, the games ended at 17—an unusual number in pickup culture—and neither man forgot it.

Every Pervis Polk Cup game plays to 17. The championship is the lone exception, played to the traditional 21.

Three single-elimination brackets give every team something to play for. The final is the only game that goes to 21.

When and where is the Pervis Polk Cup?

The Pervis Polk Cup runs September 12–13, 2026 across two Pasadena campuses, and play starts at 9am both days. Saturday, September 12: first game 9am at Blair High School, 1201 S. Marengo Ave., Pasadena, CA. Sunday, September 13: first game 9am at Pasadena Poly, 1030 E. California Blvd., Pasadena, CA.

Who can play in the tournament?

The field is open to players ages 16 and older, with open men's and open women's and 16–17 divisions. Players ages 16–17 need a guardian signature and committee approval.

How many players are on a 3x3 team?

Each roster has 3 to 5 players. 3 play at a time under FIBA 3x3-style rules, and teams do not use coaches.

How much does team registration cost?

No payment is required to register a team. Complete the roster and waiver, then send the $250 entry fee through Zelle. The spot is reserved after organizer verification.

How much prize money is there?

$2,500 in cash prizes, paid out of the entry fees. $1,250 for champ, $750 for runner-up, $500 for 3rd place.

What is the tournament format?

Saturday is pool play. Sunday has three single-elimination brackets, so every team plays both days. Games go to 17; the championship goes to 21.

What are the rules of 3x3 basketball?

One hoop, half court, three on three. Shots inside the arc count 1 and shots behind it count 2, there are 12 seconds to get a shot up, and after a defensive rebound or a steal the ball has to clear behind the arc. Pervis Polk Cup games play to 17 with rosters of 3 to 5. The full player rundown, plus clips, is on the 3x3 rules page.

How does the tournament support local schools?

The event gives $1,000 each to Blair High School, Pasadena Poly, and John Muir High School. The Muir gift seeds a scholarship fund in Pervis Polk's name.
